Do you see the car above? That looks like a LeMons car (especially being pushed into a pitbox). See what’s wrong with the car below?

Kinja'd!!!

Today was the first Junkyard Race at Zandvoort. The Dutch 24 hours of LeMons.

Only it lasted just under 6 hours.
The theme was Movie and TV racers.
Not that you would be able to tell as most of the teams didn’t care much for dressing up the cars.
And I have my doubts about a lot of the cars being bought for under 500 euros.

I say a lot of the cars. There were 5 or 6 cars on track at a time at most and about 10 cars in competition in total.

Yeah...

Anyway, let’s cut them some slack. It’s their first go at this.

Here are a ton of pictures.

Underneath the main grandstand is a garage that services the cars for a drivers training/trackday school. They allowed me to take a few shots inside. Lot’s of hidden stuff to spot:

No Idea. I arrived after the start and left before the end.

From what I gathered there were 2 classes and the last I heard, the Orange BMW was leading one and the Sierra leading the other.

Probably like stateside where you can buy the car for more and deduct the cost of things you sell or something like that.

They will get the hang of it. It will catch on.

But it’s on steelies! That negates the rest of the actual race car-ness of it, right?

I think it’s the same deal, but I can assure the way some of those cars cornered were no where close to 500 euro.

I hope they get it together. I would be awesome to get the same passion behind it. For now it was just a a few rich kids playing around. It will need time.

Hi, well you are mostely right about us dutch sucking at this.

A lot of teams just bought a race car and took the penalty’s they got for the R888 toyo and race suspensoin for granted but there were some of us who did actually get our hands dirty.

The Honda civic was as standard as it gets a 1.5 dxi built around 1993 so was the suspension. This car was old and tired and should have been put out of his misery 5 years ago and with 230000km under its belt it deserved a rest.

But nooooooo in stead he got a manicure with a set of yokohama s drive times and new front brakes. (The only new things bought)

After the manicure it got a makeover to look like raoule caroule the french ralley citroen in Cars I and II. The spoilers had been on the shelf for a decade and were never going to be sold anyway.

I believe we did a decent if you’e going to vic=sit us again don’t hasitate to come on in the box and have a chat.

In march were going to trie again and there will probably be less racecars and more junkyardracers.

kindest regards

Hello Vincent,

Thank you for your reply. The title of my post was quite harsh but as I said in my little intro, I am aware this was the first time this event was being organised and I can appreciate how hard it is to get this off the ground in Holland. I totally believe that the next editions will be much better. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great to see this kind of event over here!

The Civic , the Sierra , the Mondeo and the Dumb and Dumber BMW were the real LeMons car/stars out there. It was a lot of fun seeing them get thrown around the track. I get why the other teams were allowed to race though. An endurance race with 3 cars isn’t much of a race.

By the way, if you would like some more shots of the Civic (or another car) I’d be happy to sort through my photos and send them to you.
